Desert Palms or Candy Cane Inn?

I have a friend planning a trip to Disneyland and they've decided they don't want to spring for on property so are deciding between Desert Palms and Candy Cane Inn. I've stayed at Candy Cane Inn numerous times and have always had a great experience so that was my suggestion. But I have never stayed at Desert Palms so I can't really offer a fair comparison.

So all you other DL experts out there would you suggest one over the other? And what are the main differences between the two?

They have a three year old if that makes a difference.

I don't believe I have actually heard anything about Desert Palms. All I know is that the locations of these two properties are about the same. Hopefully someone with actual input will come along and answer.
