Question Best Seating for a Musical?

I'm taking my five-year-old daughter to a musical, and we have the opportunity to sit in the very first row. Is this too close? I like the idea nobody will be in front of us, but just wondering if we'd get more out of it if we sat further back. I've taken her to one before, and we sat five rows from the balcony back and that was too far. Thanks!

That would be too close for me. I think it would be WAY too close for a 5 year old.

We prefer to be in the upper level, towards the front, when we do this kind of thing with our kids.

Don't worry too much about someone being in front of her...at 5, she can probably sit on your lap if that happens.

Not sure where exactly you are, but the first row is probably way too close. Especially in the Broadway theatres that are older. I like somewhere further back on the main level. 10-15 rows back is still a fantastic seat!

They also have first row box seats in the mezzanine. How would those be?

First row would be fun to see everything super close, but you will miss the overall show. I guess it kind of depends on what show it is. I think 1st row Mezz would be great casue you are up hig, no one in front and can see the whole show.

I watched 'Wicked' from the front row in NYC and it was awesome!!!!! That having been said, when I wanted to take my kids to see 'Lion King' 3rd row seats were available. I opted for first row box seats so they could see the whole show. It was beautiful, the seats were great!!! My only complaint (this is more related to the theater bc I know other theaters are strict on this) every time a door opened or an usher escorted someone to their seats the light was distracting. Even my 8 year old complained about it.

    Enjoy your show.

We have gotten center 1st few rows on the mezzanine for the broadway shows We have gone to - you can see everything.

I wish we would have been a little closer for the Rockettes at radio city -that is a big place and we were back a little over halfway on the main level.

Have a great time! Our first show was Beauty the Beast and the girls loved it!

I personally don't like the front row and it may be too loud for your daughter. We like about 10 rows back, mid center. Have a great time

Sometimes it really depends upon the theatre. But, as a general rule, I prefer either center orchestra about half way back or 1st row balcony (or mezzanine) center. That way you can get the entire stage experience.

It all depends on the size of the show. To see all special effects, you wouldn't want to sit that close. What show are you going to see and is it in CT? If it is in a theater in CT, feel free to PM me - I am a House Manager at one of the local theaters.
