I believe you need to cover each persons fare in either cash or points, not both. Meaning you can't use 100 points towards a person, then pay the balance with cash. If the fare is 150 points per person (and the point costs are per person) and two people are going, then you must use either 0, 150 or 300 points and the rest is cash,

I wouldn't say that it's a horrible value to use points for a cruise- it can depend on when you go, what price per point you bought DVC, and what you pay on dues. We looked at our ownership cost / dues per point and what we spent point-wise on our last cruise vs. what the cruise would have cost in cash. We saved almost $2K.
