Default Oh no, now I've done it!

My high-school daughter had to give a 6- to 8-minute informative speech for her communications class. They could pick any topic at all -- but it had to be something they were very interested in because it required a lot of research.

So, out of all the subjects she could have chosen, she picked Disney World. She didn't have to go to the library; we had all the books here she needed.

I feel proud and guilty at the same time. I've either raised her very well or given her the curse -- I can't decide.

Consider it a gift, not a curse. All 4 of my kids have the gift as well (they're all grown and gone). If you're lucky, you daughter will do what DS#2 did and end up as an entertainer at WDW. After years of taking the kids to WDW (and Disneyland) he's now paying us back by using his discounts.

I see it as preparing her for the future; she'll make sure you get to Disney World in your old age.

My DD is going into Hotel and Hospitality Management in college and she said you'd be surprised how often they talk about the way Disney manages their resorts. She says she doesn't need the books...she has all the personal experience she needs!

Thanks -- she did great! Her class loved it. When she was done, her teacher actually said she should work there.

I took public speaking in college and we had to do a persuasive speech. I chose to do my speech on why you should vacation at Disney World. I was at home for a weekend before my speech and I took park maps and other things with me to use when I gave the speech. I spent a day getting my props ready and writing the speech. I got an A and my teacher said my speech was one of the bests among her classes.

Congrats! DD did the same thing with the guide maps. She needed two "props" to accompany the speech, either physical or AV. Her first were the maps, and her second was a time-lapse video of the MK from Disney Park Videos that you can find on YouTube (it's the tilt shift movie called "A Day at the Magic Kingdom").
