Default Bringing food on the plane

Hey all! Just wondering if Southwest will allow me to bring food on the flight. I'm pretty ignorant about airline stuff. We usually bring snack cakes, granola bars, etc., to eat in the morning before heading off into the parks. Can I pack these in my suitcase? Should I maybe just bring them in my carry-on?

    TIA!

At the sound of his roar, sorrows will be no more,
When he bares his teeth, winter meets its death,
And when he shakes his mane, we shall have spring again.

Food items are allowed by the TSA in your carry-on bags. Only exceptions are liquid type foods ie. gravy, syrups or anything that may leak out.

There is almost no regulations on food items in your checked luggage.

Just be prepared for some extra screening with the food items. But all in all: no worries.

Just flew from Tampa home to Chicago on Southwest...I packed a collapsable cooler in my checked luggage (for drinks @ the beach). I ended up bringing leftovers home in the same luggage. Next time I will be packing a lot more snacks in my checked bags, instead of stopping at Walmart when I get there. If you bring food on your carryon, the TSA will make you throw it away. I saw this happen to a few people. Have a great trip!

We fly Southwest. TSA has never had us discard our food that we put in our carry-on. It makes me wonder what the difference is that they would make some people throw out their food and others not. We have brought chips, granola bars, candy, cookies, crackers and have never been told to toss any of it.

I never bring liquid through TSA, but once you get through security you can buy your drinks, etc. and then carry them on the plane.

Unless it's a liquid, or something like mayannaise, this should not be an issue.

I've been flying regularly for forever and I've never seen or heard of this - unless the food items in question were of the semi-liquid type such as yogurt, peanut butter, some cheeses, etc. Baby food can go through if it's in the original, unopened jars, but not if it's been put into another container.

I've also noted significant differences in enforcement (I'd hate to think it was in actual policy) at different airports. Same carry-on, same contents, different results.

In general though, yes, you can take food on board the plane.

I've flown SW airlines for our Disney trips the past few years. The most recent trips (Sep 2010, Feb 2011 and just last week) besides the little snacks of granola bars, gummies, dry cereal, ect. for my 4yr and 2yr old, we've brought on DD munchkins, sandwhich wraps, and this past trip leftover mickey waffles to snack on (it was an early flight). Just no liquids thru screening. Once in the gate area, we usually buy a bottled water for the flight.

We just got back and one of our checked bags was fully of food, just no liquids this time as I deem them too heavy although they are allowed in checked bags.

As far as TSA... it just depends. Some are more thourough than others and the rules are constantly changing to keep everyone on their toes. I went through this last week with applesauce in my purse (the kind in little containers, not just poured around making a mess... haha) and I was fine. Previously, I have had it taken away. Just depends.
