    Default Key ?

I know that you can put a charge on your key to the world but my question is, can you put different amounts on different cards? We are thinking of putting about 50.00 on each of our kids cards and letting them charge their own items so maybe they might think about what they are buying and if they really want it or not...Is this possible to do?

I do not believe you can. I have always been under the assumption that you put a credit card number on your key.

Absolutely you can. While DH and I have the resort limit on our card, we allow DS who is 13 a $100 credit on his resort card. It makes him feel good that we trust him, and it makes it easy if DS wants a snack at the food court - he can go get it, instead of DH or I escorting him to pay for it!

I have always been under the assumption that you put a credit card number on your key.
You secure your room charges with a credit card at check-in (or cash - or Disney Gift Cards, etc), but the actual credit card number is not on your room card. Once you reach your charging "limit", you sign off on the charges at your hotel front desk, they run your credit card through and you start anew.

Kylesmom - I really like that idea! Do you use the credit card to put that amount on the childs key card or cash? In the past, I've purchased Disney dollars at home & each had their own "money" or I've had an envelope of cash for each DS. I'm thinking that loading their key card would be easier! If you put a fixed amount on a key card, does the balance show on the receipt after a purchase? I'm just wondering if my DS's would really pay attention to what they've spent & their dwindling balance if they didn't have that visual cue. ?

You can limit the charges on the keys. It's a popular option a lot of guests would opt for to give their kids or try and keep their spending smart while on vacation. A lot of keys tend to get lost at/in the pool also (Can't tell you how many I collected in my years guarding). It's a nice little reassurance.

You're not really "loading" the room key. It's a room charging limit, and the kids can have a different limit from the adults. The receipts won't tell you where you stand on your limit.

You might be better off using Disney gift cards for the kids. You can get them at the Disney Store before your trip. I think those receipts will tell you how much remains on the gift card.

We usually secure all of our room charges with a credit card upon check-in. It's a nice convenience and as mentioned, makes DS feel good that we trust him, but we don't really track his expenses that way - as Steve mentioned, you don't get a visual cue after you've charged to your room key to see what the balance is.

DS has about $150 in Disney gift cards to spend this year, and since I think most of that
will be spent at Tattoine Traders, Art of Disney & the Lego store, we'll just deposit those into our account upon check-in & he'll keep a running total of how much he has left. That's where the visual comes in - he keeps a running total of how much he has left, and we confirm it. I should also mention that at any time you can get a summary of what's been charged against the room key at guest services at your resort.

Ah! Thanks to you both - Kylesmom & brownie! I'm still unsure, my guys are older have been so many times now that they don't actually buy that much. I may go with giving them charging privliges or I may just give each of them cash to keep up with themselves. I'm just tired of toting around individuals envelopes/baggies for each with their spending money! They are definitely old enough to tke care of this themselves! I like that card idea, I really don't like carrying around that much cash, we can just check their receipts to see what they've spent!

My Intercot friends are really ! I have learned so much from so many of you taking the time to share you knowledge & experience! You're the best! Intercot Rocks!

I was curious about this as well. The last time I was in the world, I was there with a friend and we both carried around our individual wallets with our debit cards/various credit cards when we wanted to purchase souvenirs...

I had always known about charging back to the room, but is this something that could be possible with both of us divvying up our payments--aka seeing a separate list of transactions for each of us and not one for the room in total.

    Any feedback is welcome!

I've never done it but I think I remember reading here that you could each link your key to your own cc. Hopefully someone can confirm that (or tell me I'm nuts )

I'm taking 2 extra teens with me in June. I got lanyards and pouches on sale from disney shopping and am putting their KTTW, pass, and gift card in them. I've been picking up the gift cards over time at the grocery store so it's good to know snacks/extras for 4 teens are already paid for.

When it's just my boys they get charging privileges and have never abused them. They do charge souveniers, give me the receipts each night, and I deduct it from their cash.

Usually we use our keys for charges, but this year we'll be using a lot of our Rewards Points from my Disney Visa. I just ordered 2 separate cards for the boys with the minimal amounts to get the cards ($25 I think) and will add to it once we arrive. I have a tendency to make the simplest task difficult and this way, we don't have to worry about any confusion at check-in.
