Funny thing is only a very small amount of our oil is imported from the middle east (I believe around 5%) We import most of our oil from Canada. So the wool is pulled over everyone's eyes when we're told the price of gas has risen due to middle east conflicts.

I just paid $4.29, and it made me sick. I used to be able to go almost a week with $20 worth, not anymore. I don't work, just drive to local stores, and play dates. I held out on e as long as I could hoping the prices would go down. Wishful thinking.

Hello fellow South Jersyan!!
I have to do have to disagree a little.
Where oil is imported from has a minor impact on the cost of the barrell.
It has risen recently and in the recent past because it is a commodity and it is being used as investment globally, moreso now because of the weak US dollar. It is one of the better investments out there now because people and countries are still very oil dependent. And since it is based on the US dollar, when the dollar is weak, other countries can get more bang for their buck investment-wise.
Also, I think the Middle East conflicts do have some cause in the rising cost of oil. One of the factors in cost of oil is supply. OPEC nations involved in the conflict may have reduced supplies, and the cost will rise. And a nation like Canada, even though it is not OPEC, would follow the "market price" on a barrell of oil on its exports to the US, correct?
BTW, oil has fallen today around 5% on demand fears because it has had a marked impact in the US economic growth. This has happened in the past when it reaches a tipping point when the economy backslides because of the high cost at the pump. Only problem is - falling oil prices = a falling economy. It has to find some balance and in the past few years, it hasn't and the cost of oil has been all over.

I paid $1.39/litre yesterday, which works out to $5.26/US gallon, which because the Canadian dollar is trading higher than the US one, works out to $5.50 US per US gallon.
$4.35 doesn't sound so bad now, does it?

yes $4.35 does still sound bad mainly because never venture to canada to have to worry about those prices. but for our area $4.35 is horrible.
gas prices were lower before they capped the Gulf...

Paid $3.79 for regular in Northern NJ this week.
$90/100 to fill up Suburban depending on when I stop to get, how close to empty I am. However, I am only getting gas every other week for this vehicle, and I really really try to be logistically mindful when running errands and going out.
$50 to fill up Camaro, which I drive on the weeks I don't have to take my carpool kids home from school.
The gas prices are hurting!

I think this is really the ONLY way to stay ahead with this crunch! Carpooling, using transit, PLOTTING errands and walking/cycling when possible.

I paid $4.25 yesterday and it cost me $50 to fill up my Civic. I was listening to the radio this morning and there are conflicting predictions of what's coming up. Some people are saying that gas prices have peaked, others are saying that we'll see $6.00 a gallon by summer.

E85 is selling for $3.35/gal in this area, but my cars won't run on it. Regular gas is still under $4.00/gal. here in Middle Ga, but not by much.

I am in no way a oil price expert, and I didn't sleep at a Holiday Inn last night , but I think its peaked. The world economy, especially the US, cannot continue growth with high oil prices. It is probably the most direct drain on a person's spending. It may bounce back to what it was at $115/barrell but come summer time, I think it will wind back down.
Again, this is just my opinion (and wishful thinking), based on previous trends.

Finally! I finally got lucky! Gas prices came down 24 cents a gallon overnight and I needed a fill up.
I drive a Camaro with a V8 so this is a big thing! The past two fill ups happened right after gas prices went up again.

The gas station in the town I work in just went from $3.95 to $3.91. Not a big drop but at least a start in the right direction. And this is usually one of the cheapest places.
Price Chopper give .10 off for every $50 you spend there. So I find myself doing almost all my shopping there now.
When I bought my car 10 years ago, it cost about $10-12 to fill it. Now it's around $35.00!
I really hope it continues to go down or we might not be doing as many day trips this summer.

Here in the UK gas costs £1.42 per litre (£6.46 per Gallon), at todays exchange rate this would cost 10 USD per gallon
IT JUST COST ME IN USD EQUIVALENT - $155 TO FILL MY CAR!
Everyone is finding it difficult, and walking as much as possible instead.

Checking out this thread as we are driving back to the World in 2 weeks, and wondering what the prices are outside of KY. I paid $3.95 a gallon this morning. It's usually our experience that as soon as we are South of Louisville, the prices drop a little, anything less would be welcome!

I have generally purchased gas at Costco when I was in that general area. It's usually cheaper by about 10 cents but the other day we stopped and it was $3.65. When we returned home, the small independent station near my home was $3.51, and it's still coming down. We also though have a new competitor coming to town, big competitor, so that probably has a lot to do with it as well. Who know, I don't really care, it's cheaper...
