commuting to work

At present, my commute is about an hour and 20 minutes (subway and walking). I am considering a transfer to an office closer to my apartment that will cut that commute down to about 10 minutes (subway and walking) or 20 minutes (walking).

i go to school 2 days/week and i have an internship the other 3.

My intership commute: An hour on the train and a 25 minute walk to the office. There is a bus, but i timed it, and it only gets me in the office 8 minutes sooner. I rather like the walk, except when it's frigid.

My school commute: If i drive, an hour and 15. But i can't always drive, because parking is so tight. If you're not there by 8 am, forget about free parking!

If i take the train, three hours. I have to take a train into the city, get off, then walk about 25 minutes to another train line, wait another 40 minutes for a train and sit on the train for 18 minutes.

I get a lot of my studying done on the train.

i graduate in 13 weeks. This, too, shall pass...

I am an hour door to door in the morning using public transit. It's about 1 hour 15 minutes going home in the evening. A very reasonable commute for Toronto.

I'm a homeschool mom so it takes me about 30 seconds to walk from my bedroom to the kitchen table where we do most of our schooling.

On the other hand, my husband is a consultant and has to fly to the project site each week. His current project is about 1,000 miles north. He flies to and from each week. The next project will be slightly farther at around 1,200 miles one way.

My office was added onto my house. When you have 10 acres, you can build out.

When I worked at the Hospital Lab it was about 15 minutes. When I worked at the Tissue Bank it was about 30 minutes.

Hubby is about 45 minutes - if there is not an old man with a hat in front of him on the country roads.

I work in NE Philadelphia. I don't drive; I use public transportation. All of you in the Philly area know what a joy using SEPTA can be at times.

When I still lived in South Philadelphia, my commute was approximately an hour (bus, subway/elevated train, bus) each way.

Now that I'm living in West Chester, my commute can range from 2 to 3-1/2 hours each way, depending on connections/equipment problems/traffic/weather/etc. Typical commuting time is 2-1/4 hours each way. I've settled into a routine. My morning commute is an extension of sleep time, since I'm on the first bus for close to an hour, and on the subway/elevated train for 40 minutes; I use the time spent on the 3rd mode (short bus trip from the terminal to work - the only part of my commute that's the same as it was before my move) to wake up and get ready to face my desk. My evening commute is spent reading the paper, reading a book, doing puzzles, etc. Sometimes, if it's been a really rough day, I sleep.

The best part of my current commute - the bus stop is only 26 steps away from my front door - both morning and evening!

Shortly after I started commuting from West Chester, I realized that I travel to/from work the equivalent of a round trip by air to WDW, EVERY DAY!!

15 miles, which can take anywhere from 20 minutes (on the way to work in the morning) to 2 hours (driving home if I leave during the hours of 5:00 - 6:30) --- gotta love LA.

My commute is only about 17 miles each way, but the most practical route takes abour 45 minutes midday, about 30 minutes homeward in the late evening.

Yes. I drive to the commuter train. Taking the bus to the train would add another 30 minutes or so. Unless one is driving into the Downtown area at 5am, to DRIVE to work would take far more than an hour, and cost a fortune to park your car. An hour is the standard commute no matter where you are coming from in the Toronto area, unless you live Downtown (I have a co-worker who walks the 10 minutes to our office).

I'm a career civil servant. I've worked for the Federal Government since high school graduation. My agency was located in South Philadelphia for a long time (predecessor agencies date back to Revolutionary War times), until we relocated to NE Philadelphia in 1999.

I'm a Philly native and never intended to move out of the city. But, things happened. After my Mother passed away, I was the only family member still in Philly and it was difficult to stay connected to the family. My family is split between Quakertown and West Chester. I decided to move to West Chester to be closer to my sister and nephew, but not until after I stopped working. But, things happened. After many years of living in the same place, it was time for a change, and I planned to look for a condo in Philly. Then, I decided it would be crazy to move to a new place, only to move again in a couple of years. I decided to go for it and move to West Chester earlier than originally planned. So, although my commuting time has doubled, overall the move has been a good one. My sister and I are able to spend more time together now. It's great to have family close by.

I've worked for the Federal Government for so many years, I have a nameplate on my desk that's older than many of my co-workers. I never considered looking for a new job; I'd never find one comparable to the one I have now, not to mention the benefits. I'm fortunate, since I'm covered by the original Civil Service Retirement System.

I live 2.8 miles from work. It's great, especially coming home. I can leave work right at 5 and am home at 5:08.

I feel very lucky to walk right out of my back gate to the elementary school where I substitute teach I hope I can eventually find a full-time job there!

Everything about my current job stinks except for the friends I've made and my current commute. It only takes me about 15 minutes from my door to the school I work at. Even though I live in NJ now and work in Philly, I'm closer than I was when I lived in Philly! I have to pay a toll every day though, which is the only negative about the commute.

I can make it to work in 30 seconds or less. I have a home office and work from home except on occassional weekends - then my commute is to anywhere in the tri-state area.

I work almost exactly 20 km from home. That's about 12.5 miles. Since I start early and finish late the drive isn't so bad.

In the winter, the drive takes me about 20 minutes in good weather; but in the good weather the bike comes out. It takes me about 45 minutes, and great exercise it is, too.

I work about 3 miles from home. It takes me 8 minutes, door-to-door. I work in our local public library, so not only do I work close to home, but I always see friends and neighbors here, and people who have known me my whole life. And, I'm close to my son's school. Certainly can't complain!

Sylvia, I can understand why you would want to live in West Chester. It's beautiful there. My husband went to WCU and has taught the marching band there. We're about 40 minutes from there. We go there a few times a year to walk around and enjoy.
