It doesn't really make a difference what the "reports" are. The truth is, people spread bedbugs, not hotels. Any hotel can have a bedbug infested room at any time.
Your best defense is offense. Check the beds BEFORE you bring any luggage into the room. Bring a small pocket sized flashlight, peel back the sheets, and look in the mattress seams and in the area where the headboard is. Look for brown spots, or the bugs themselves. If you see anything suspect, go back to the front desk to be moved to another room.

Actually no. Go back to the front desk and tell them about the problem and ask them to resolve it. The hotel will have a procedure that is based on ensuring that the problem is not spread either within the hotel or back home with you. There are reports of Disney having everything innlcuding baggage, clothes, the car and the rooms treated (heat in most cases) to remove the bed bugs completely while galso iving people compensation.
It is important to both report the problem and then let them deal with it in the appropriate ways and, yes, moving you to another room will likely occur, but let them do it in the right sequence so that you don't happen to just take the bugs with you both to the next room and home. In other words, don't just ask for a room change make sure they handle the situation correctly.
26 years staying at the Polynesian There's a great big beautiful tomorrow, shining at the end of everyday...
Twenty six straight years staying at the Polynesian
Next trip: October 2018
Thanks for the replies...great advice. I was just intrested in knowing if there were any recent cases reported. We have really stayed in some shady places before & NEVER even thought about these little critters, much less ever thinking that they would be visting MICKEY MOUSE too.
We are leaving in a few days and this has concerned me. I went today to buy bed bug spary for our luggage and will also be bringing it to the resort. I am not just worried about the resort but our luggage on the plane being mixed in with everyone elses. I am probably over reacting but better safe then sorry.
Next Trip: POP Century...September 16th to September 26th!

Where do you get bed bug spray? I've never heard of it.

That's what I meant. If you suspect bed bugs, DEFINITELY mention that specifically, and make sure they take care of it. My suggestion to check the room BEFORE you bring in any of your personal belongings would alleviate the issue of needing to treat your things as well as the room. Send ONE person into the room to do the check. Once you find it "all clear", everyone else can come in along with the bags. It takes all of 3-5 min to check for bed bugs. They don't just hang out in the room all over. They will be on the mattress.

I got mine off the internet. The one I use is called Bedlam. I started using spray when I first heard about the bedbug outbreak a couple of years ago. I spray my luggage before I leave home as well, because you never know whose luggage yours will up next to in the baggage handling.
I picked up 2 small travel spray bottles at bed bath and beyond. I forget off hand what it is but if you ask someone will find it for you. The kind I purchased is all natural with no pesticides. My biggest fear is someone elses luggage at this point too. Like someone else suggested check the mattress. No amount of spray would make me feel safe sleeping in a room with any kind of bug. I would ask to be moved. But I tend to play it safe and will be treating the bed just in case.
