Default Two Birthdays, a new job, and two steps forward at long last! Pt 2

DH (Brian, aka CanadianWDWFan) – Celebrating his new job
Me (Jennifer, aka Mickey’sGIrl) – Celebrating my 41st birthday
    DS12 (Harry) – Celebrating his 12th birthday
DS6 (Euan) – Celebrating life, cuz it’s pretty good when you’re 6 and at Disneyworld!

    Day 2 –Saturday May 22

Saturday morning, we got up when we got up. We all felt much more ourselves. We made breakfast in the room (good coffee and good bagels!), then drove over to Epcot.

It was insanely busy at the Security desk and at the turnstiles (where they shut the biometrics off so that people could move through faster) and the queue for Spaceship Earth was miles long. What’s with that?? We decided to head into Innoventions where we signed on for an Kim Possible mission, then lined up for the design your own rollercoaster experience. Euan and I teamed up, because we are both chicken, and Brian and Harry teamed up to design a more thrilling ride. Euan chose a “Jet” design, and aside from a few slow spirals and a couple of bumpy bumps, it was very low key. Harry chose a “roller coaster” design, where he made a looping 0-G top hat at 100 miles perhour and over 400 feet. NUTS! Euan and I got into the seats, and he was a bit apprehensive. The attendant promised him the ride would be only what he designed, and that if he needed it, Mom could push the button in between us to stop the experience.... then she lowered the monitor hoods onto us. I am claustrophobic, and could feel my heart race and my body sweat immediately, but I saw Euan smiling away in the corner of my monitor screen, and decided I would try it before panicking. The ride started, and I concentrated on not being freaked out, by looking at Euey’s face ... and realized I could track our progress along the bottom of the screen. That helped! The ride moved along quickly, and I would have enjoyed it, had it not been within a tight enclosed hood ... and more importantly, Euan loved it. Harry thought his ride was phenomenal – he LOVED the 0-G’s on his ride.

We met up, and decided to go over to the Piggy Bank challenge on the other side of Innoventions. I had to go sit down for a bit (I still felt like I could pass out), so Brian and the boys went through. Their mission was the ultimate vacation, and they more than succeeded! I guess our tough last year taught them a thing or two about saving money and spending wisely! I had recovered enough by the time they were through, and we headed out the Rose Garden path, and around by Canada and the UK to the Kim Possible mission centre. We were assigned a mission to stop the Senior Seniors over in France. It was fun! We left France and continued along to Germany to take a launch across to Future World so the kids could get their . Then to Club Cool (which was INSANELY BUSY AND STICKY) for some bevies, and then over to Figment to take a Journey into our Imaginations. Believe it or not, the line for Figment was out the door, and was posted at 30 minutes. I have NEVER seen it so long ... perhaps it was because Honey I Shrunk the Audience is closed? Regardless, the line moved well, and we rode and sang. As cheesy as it is ... I love that ride. Again we headed out along the Rose Garden path towards the World Showcase lagoon...where we caught the launch over to Morocco. Euan was invited up to the microphone to give people basic no-smoking instructions (he’s quite accomplished at giving instructions) and he was given a Boat Captain license. We strolled over to Chefs de France to check in for our late lunch.

We were seated at Chefs quite quickly, and placed our orders. Euan ordered the chicken and pasta, Harry had lobster bisque and the hamburger, Brian had the onion soup and Croque Monsieur, and I had the bisque and Macaroni. For dessert, the boys had ice cream, Brian had the profiteroles and I had the Creme Brule. The wait staff brought Harry’s and my desserts out with candles, since we were both wearing our birthday buttons, and sang “Bonne Anniversaire!” to us. .... then Remy came out! Our waitress had told us there were some technical difficulties with Remy that day, and that he might not be able to get out of the kitchen ... but I guess they got him fixed! That was a lot of fun! After lunch, we decided to take the launch back to Future World. I was entirely too full of cream (I figure that lunch put me at about 45%) .... it was 4 in the afternoon, and extremely hot, so some pool time was in order.
After cooling off at the Turtle Pond pool again, we cleaned up and headed over to Downtown Disney, as the boys wanted to hit the LEGO store, and Brian and I wanted to pick up some stuff for our niece at the World of Disney store. Euan is the LEGO master, with particular attention on the figures. His favourite of all the guys is Indiana Jones. He has several Indy’s that he can tell apart, and he will play with them for hours. His goal for this year (he thought we were going to WDW in the summer) was to get the set with the big boulder from Raiders of the Lost Ark. We got into the LEGO store and looked everywhere, but couldn’t find any of the Indy sets. So, we asked one of the guys working there, and he told us that it had been discontinued. I thought Euan was going to lose it... and the guy felt soooo awful... but thank goodness for Toy Story LEGO sets, because we were able to distract Euan with them, and he made a purchase. Harry chose another Star Wars kit, then we headed back to the resort, where we made a light cream-free dinner in our room. We didn’t want to be late, as we were going to try and brave the crowds at the Studios on Sunday money for Star Wars Weekend!

Ugh - I've read other trip reports from your touring period, and while not shocked, I was hoping that you guys "zigged" while the crowds "zagged", if you get my meaning.

The design your own coaster attraction sounds pretty cool - thank goodness you & Brian have kids that wanted a different experience! Figgy was out the door, huh? That speaks volumes to me on how crowded Epcot was today! We've only seen that once or twice, even in the middle of summer crowds!

Great lunch & great swim in the afternoon. What a disappointing trip to the LEGO store for Euan, however! I hope you're able to find what he's looking for online from a reseller - especially since he really had his heart set on that boulder!

All in all, a good (but congested) day. I've got my fingers crossed that your family was able to enjoy Star Wars Weekends on the morrow!

I'm tired just reading your report from today. Sounds like it was pretty crazy, crowd wise.

You know, I can SWEAR I just saw that Indiana Jones Boulder Lego set at the Lego Store in DtD here in CA. I will be there on Wednesday, and I'll check if they have it. I remember, because my son saw it and pointed to it and said "big Lego ball", and I remember it clearly. This was only a week ago. If I see it, I'll buy it for you!

Wow! It sure was busy at Epcot that day! That was just a few days after we got home from our trip. We found the crowds heavier than I would have expected but erratically so. Looks like they were all there for you, unfortunately!

Jenn, what a fun day, even with your rough start from Euan's jet ride. We did the rollercoasters, too - but the girls went together, b/c they wanted a 'wild' ride, and Dan & I were the chickens!

Your lunch at Chefs sounded so good... we are going to have to just give in and go there sometime. I just hope Remy is still there by the time we get there!

Too funny how long the line for Figment was... I've never seen it that long, either. And I agree -- no matter how cheesy the ride is, I still love it -- and thankfully, the girls still do, too. Emma had to buy a stuffed Figment last trip, she likes him so much...

    On to the next day...

Wow! What a busy day, from all sides. Sounds like had a good day, despite the totally crazy crowds.

We've never waited at all for Figment, that must have been a bit of a shock.

Yeah Lego stopped making Indiana Jones in December. We found out when we were there...some places still sell the ones they have left. So if you see them get them while you can because they aren't getting anymore.
In May we were in a hobby store and they had a set left and my nephew who is six begged for it. I then told my mom (his grandma) that they weren't making them anymore (I even told her to ask the owner as she didn't believe either of us LOL) and sure enough the owner verified what I had said
So it may still be out there...and I'm sure someone will sell it on ebay.

Wow another great day. Next time we go to the World I may try the roller coaster experience. The cast member tried to talk me into riding when we were there in December but I have a huge fear of coasters so said no. Now that I know there is a button to stop the experience I may try it next time. So glad you shared all of that info.

    Those are some crowd levels!

The lunch sounds great, I would love to see Remy like that.

May have to make sure I make my own chicken exit for the coaster thing then.
