Default Has anyone ever flown with camping gear?

To save costs thinking of camping, end of may/1st of June 2011. Will it be really hot to tent camp then? Thinking I could get by on just the basics, tent, airmattress, sheet, pillow. I think I could pack it in a checked bag or two. Any advise/suggestions?

    Welcome to Intercot!

Yes, it will be very hot and humid in late May/early June. Still, we've tent camped in May before and done okay with it.

However, we've never flown our gear down to Disney World. When we've tent camped there in the past, we've always driven to Disney World. I must admit, I've thought of doing what you suggest. Remember, though, you'll still need items like towels for the showers.

Look at the airlines current baggage rules. It can get pretty expensive when airlines charge for even the first checked bag.

    Welcome!!

As stated, it will be hot and humid. While an avid tent camper, we always pull the trailer down during the summer months. Still, I have been amazed at the number of tent campers I have seen during the summer. As for flying your stuff down, we have never done that either. Unless they no longer do so, Disney rents camping items such as tents and cots. Looking into this may make for less packing for that flight. Good luck
