Any information on Free Dining?
Does anyone know when Free Dining is likely to be available again? Thanks!

No. There have been no announcements made but as soon as they are you will see them posted at the top of this foum.
Latest rumor, and it's only an unconfirmed rumor, is that some sort of fall discount will be announced for Disney visa holders on April 29 then general public May 2. The general consensus is that it will be "free" CS dining, which means if you can get a room or package discount you'd be much better off.

Rumor has it that it may come out at the end of the month for Disney Visa cardholders and then like May 3rd for eveyone else...we'll have to just wait and see! Rumor also says it maybe the QSD plan...but who knows!

So far, alot of the free dining offers seem to be coming through e-mails directly to potential guests. I know I've received 2 or 3 of them already. Whether or not it becomes a public offering again, will probably depend on how many bookings the e-mails generate.

I know I will be in the minority here but I hope it's QSD that is offered. Although we love the free dining, I don't like having to be at a certain place at a certain time for a ressie. Silly, I know.
Your attention please, the Walt Disney World Railroad is now boarding for a trip around the Magic Kingdom

For the Aug-Sep timeline QS would be about the only thing that would make sense. The 180 day booking period for TS for Aug started on Feb. 2 and for Sept on March 4. So even if they offered free TS for those months the ADRs probably couldn't be made. With 180 + 10, early Nov dates are being booked so Oct is probably out of the question.
As each day goes by the practicality of making ADRs and thus the practicality of free DDP for any period in this year diminishes.

If QSD is announced, can we upgrade to the regular plan. We are staying at a mod. with 3 adults, so I think that will still be better than a room discount.

Hope it is QSD, we are staying at a moderate with 2 adults and 2 kids (ages 12 and 14) so would save more than double with the QSD then the 35% off room pin code we got.

I'm booked with Magical Journeys with the regular plan. If this does happen, will they give us the free QSD and then charge us for the difference only for the regular plan. Any idea if the dates this may happen for? We are not going until Oct.

IF it happens, it doesn't look like it'll last into October. That's just speculation, though. To answer your question - MJ will make sure your reservation has the best discount attached to it at all times. If you want to pay the up charge for the regular DDP they can help you with that, too.

I just read they extended the kids stay, eat, play for free through Oct 2nd.
So I would think that the free dining is not happening.
guess we will just stay at the Dolphin the whole time we are there instead of splitting between the dolphin and a Disney hotel.
Without the "deal" it's cheaper for us to stay at the Dolphin with our discount.

That's possible, but I'm still hearing some decently reputable rumors that some discount, whether it's "free" dining or something else will be released at the end of this week or first of next.

I'm probably going to get thrown off of Intercot for asking this but I'm REALLY not trying to "cheat" the system.... I'm actually trying to "give" extra money to Disney....
We're considering a quick trip this September. My son would be a few months shy of 3. If I wanted to list him on the reservation as 3, so that he could get the dining plan free, could I add the no-expiration to his park ticket and use it the next time we go, when he is 3? We ALWAYS find ourselves ordering food for our son when we are there, even though he's so young - DH and I like to get our own meals and although the children's menu offerings are sometimes too much for my son, it's not totally outrageous for how much he does eat. The free kids dining would save us a lot over the course of the trip.
Of course, if some room discount is offered instead, that would be a better deal for us, but if this is the best offer I can find, would this work?
Again, please please don't flame me. I'm really not trying to cheat the system. Just trying to figure out if my son, who eats like he's 3, can use this offer.

I see where you're coming from, but yeah, I think the plan as you laid it out is definitely blurring the line. You want to say he's 3 for purposes of free dining, but that he's under 3 for purposes of using his park ticket this trip.
In regards to discussions here on INTERCOT, the rules are the rules. If you want to tell them he's over 3, then you should purchase and use the appropriate park ticket for him as well.

yes, it doesn't matter what resort you are at. If quick service is free, you can always upgrade for a that amount. however, you might consider this. if they offer free normal dining at the moderate, but only qs at value. for not a lot more you can upgrade to the moderate as opposed to spending the extra to upgrade to the normal plan.

I'm not so sure you have a valid point here -- 7 night package at a Value (in the September timeframe) for 2 adults + 1 child => $1662 | at a Moderate => $2112 ==>> for a difference of $450. The upgrade fee for QSDP to SDDP => $154. That is almost a full $300 savings to go towards souvenirs, drinks, Mickey Bars, etc.
(Prices are from WDW Online site, rounded up to next dollar amount. DDP upgrade fee does not include tax.)
