Wondering if anyone had a preference as to which cabin they like to stay in. My Dmom(67) will be going with us. She is use to walking, but Disney is another story. We have been down twice just trying to make it a little easier on her. Don't think we will be getting a golf cart- a little too much money. Thanks for all your help.

There is an internal bus system at FW that will take you anywhere inside of the resort. I rented a golf cart while I was there because it was so much faster and I could go to the store or sightseeing and it was so worth it so that we could see the deer and other critters that came out. The golf cart paid for itself in just the time it saved.

We are staying in the cabins and we were trying to save mney by not renting a golf cart so was hoping someone could tell me if there are cabins that are closer to the store or the external busses. Thanks.

None of the cabins are within walking distance to the stores or the park buses. Generally, you will need to utilize the internal buses to connect to the park buses and other campground amenities. There is a pool within walking distance to some of the cabins - loops 2500 and 2600 are closest to this pool.

Thank you. We have stayed at the Caribean Beach and had lots of walking to do is the comparison the same as the cabins?

We stayed at the Cabins for the 1st time in August and were completely surprised by how big it is! We've stayed at CBR and CSR before, both considered big resorts and there was no comparison. I don't think walking is an option from any of the cabins. That being said, the internal bus system was terrific.

No comparison at all. The campground is quite large and very spread out - much larger and much more spread out than Caribbean Beach. We stayed in a section of Caribbean Beach that was about as far as you could get from the main building and rather enjoyed the walk from our room to the main building. If you stay in a cabin, you really do need to rely on the internal bussing for the most part. A few times, we tent camped in a loop very close to Pioneer Hall which allowed us to depend on our feet much more often. From the cabins, however, using the internal busses was a necessity.

The map of Fort Wilderness says the campground is "A mile as the crow flies" from one end to the other. So I guess the resort is at least a mile long, straight across - not taking into account the winding roads and pathways that would make walking that distance even longer.
You're going to need to use the internal bus system, which is no problem... there are bus stops at pretty-much every "loop" entrance so you don't have to go far to catch a bus.

When you check in, explain the situation. We've stayed in one cabin (2327, actually) that was literally across the street from the bus stop and another cabin (which I can't remember the number) that was probably about as far away as you could get!!! The CM should be able to find you a cabin that is close to a bus stop, but even the furthest isn't too too terrible.

And as a side note, there are loops you can walk to the Outpost. Not a bad walk, but you have to be in the mood for it. For example, it was a much nicer walk in the morning than at night, lol.
