    Default room request at check-in?

sorry, this has probably been covered before, but after reading the online check-in threads, and finding out that faxed requests are no longer looked at, i started wondering. we always faxed requests and had very good luck getting rooms/areas we were hoping for. we're fine with anything, but if there's a chance of a room closer to a bus stop, pool, or food court, we'd like to try. we'll be checking in at POR somewhat early (at least before noon). i've already completed online check-in. when we arrive, could i request a certain section, hoping they have something open? is this acceptable or is it considered rude or against policy at WDW?

IMO it doesn't hurt to at least ask. They sometimes have the room already picked out but depending on the CM you get, they might not mind changing it to what you are asking for.

Hope you have a magical vacation!

I know some policies have changed about the ability of the CM at the front desk to switch rooms, but it can be done. If you don't like your room assignment it's not at all rude to ask if there's anything different available.

We sent in a fax request on our last stay in October and it was not honored when we got there but when asked again they said yes we see you faxed that request in and will be able to move you...we did have to wait until the next day but we got what we wanted.

They even moved it all for us!!!

They don't accept faxes anymore? That's a bummer....the last few times we did this (all in a year's time - 2008), we got everything we asked for. Now, we didn't have huge requests, but we did get what we wanted. In fact, at the Flo we got MUCH more than expected with our free upgrade.

I was already working on my fax for December....

I usually request the area I would like as I book my trip or, if I need some research time, I call back and have them add my request to my ressie. I've always gotten my requested area.

You can still add your request to your reservation by calling up the WDW reservations line. And yes, if you don't like the room they've assigned you at check-in, ask to see what else is available. It does help if you arrive earlier in the day when the room inventory is more plentiful.

I never get my request so I ask at check in to be moved to where I want to be.
