    Default Hatbox Ghost

Don't shoot the messenger, but, the HM refurb isn't complete after all. From what I understand, the HatBox Ghost could be making its way to the Magic Kingdom in time for the 40th anniversary. Take this with a grain of salt, but, if true, all I can say is this is great news.

Ok, what is the hatbox ghost?

Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're NOT out to get you!

The hatbox ghost was a figure that was originally intended to appear in the attic alongside the ghost bride. It was an elderly ghost figure wearing a cloak and tophat, leaning on a cane, holding a hatbox. In sync with the heat beat of the bride, the ghosts head would disappear, and reappear in the hatbox it was holding.

You can read more about it here.

Thanks for posting that Jaws. I am really hoping this is true. I think it will make for a nice addition, and will be the right way to "plus" an attraction.

It would be nice. The original was pulled because it didn't work well (in DL anyway, it never was installed at WDW) but with today's technology it could be really cool!

I think the primary problem was, with the lighting and the technology of the day, they couldn't get the head to disappear in one place as it appeared in the other--they just got two heads, one on the shoulders and one in the box.

As was said, with today's technology, they might just be able to do it now.

It would be great if they could get it to work. That sounds awesome! I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't know what it was...I thought maybe it was going to be a new actor on DHS streets.

I would love to see the HatBox Ghost come back and make his presence known in the Mansion. The picture of the Legendary Yale Gracey working on the figure is one of my favorite pictures showing an imagineer doing his job.

When we went to the 999 HHB in 2002, there was a discussion about bringing back the Hatbox Ghost. Maybe it took this long to get it right.

Part of what caused the problem was that the effect only worked well from a distance and the figure had to be placed somewhat close to the omnimover's path in order for it to be prominent, in turn ruining the effect.

Forgot to mention that I'd love to see it in the attic. Of course, then they'd have to ask one of the existing 999 ghosts to move out. Then again, can one say that a ghost 'exists'?

I read on another site that the hatbox ghost had a connection to the bride?
