Exclamation 1900 Jobs to be Cut at Disney's Domestic Theme Parks

    Interpark is reporting:

The Walt Disney Company has announced it will eliminate approximately 1,900 jobs at its domestic theme parks.

The bulk of the cuts occurred at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, where about 1,400 members of staff will lose their jobs.

About 300 jobs will be cut from the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, with the remainder coming from corporate headquarters in Burbank.

Disney spokeswoman Tasia Filippatos said: "These decisions were not made lightly, but are essential to maintaining our leadership in family tourism and reflect today's economic realities. We continue to work through our reorganisation and manage our business based on demand."

This is a shame. Floridians are having a hard time of it. I know others are as well. However Florida seems to be getting hit extra hard with a very high percentage of foeclosures and unemployment. I hope this economy bounces back for all the people that this will affect.

This is very disheartening to me. Having been to DW in February experiencing the most crowded time ever and reading post after post on here about the unusual crowds. I know my family is going 3 times this year. Do you think this is going to cut customer service? I don't see how it would not. I don't think the economy has really hurt DW that much.

Just beat me to that BMan62. The cuts have been known for some time, just so people don't think this is new news. The first announcements that there would be layoffs began in mid-fall with Disney announcing they were looking at what would be necessary and have been ongoing since. Maybe a moderator could direct this to the ongoing discussion thread.

Yeah that report is luckily a bit old news now. This DOES NOT mean 1900m more jobs, only that around 1900 jobs HAVE BEEN cut. Don't worry.

Yes, this is clearly old news. I'm going to close this thread, and direct further discussion here.
