    Default Favorite non-Disney vacation?

Not sure if this is in the right forum or not...

Anyway, we all obviously love to go to Disney, but what is your favorite non-Disney vacation spot?

Mine is the NC mountains, specifically Blowing Rock, NC. I've been there almost as many times as I've been to WDW!

Soarin' to tower: We are ready for takeoff!

My family rents a huge house with all my aunts, uncles, and cousins in Myrtle Beach for 2 weeks every year. This year the trip starts literally the day after I'm done with the Bar Exam, so I CANNOT WAIT!

We also used to always go to Williamsburg each year - haven't done that since I was about 11 or 12. Lately I've had a hankering to go back! Now that I'm not so scared of roller coaster, Busch Gardens might be much more fun! (And I love the Colonial parts - I almost went to William & Mary for law school just so I could be a part of history - in the end in-state tuition won out though! LOL)

Me too! We have family in Asheville, so we usually get a cabin up in the mountains of western NC or eastern TN, and finish up with a few days with the family. Sometimes we start in TN, then work our way to NC, spending a few days in each area. It's so beautiful there and there is SO much to do. We love it.

I really like almost any resort area in S America. As a kid, we used to live close to the border in TX and would go down once a month or so to border towns like Nueve Loredo. Nowdays, unfortunately we only cross the southern border every 3-4 years (Cancun, Puerto Villarta) but I really love it down there. Our next trip to Mexico I think I want to try the Yucatan or maybe finally go to Brazil. I like how well the American dollar still holds up down there too. Its about 10 pesos to a dollar.. not what it used to be but still pretty good. Of course to get the really good deals you have to go just outside the resort areas to the villages.

Mi hija y yo hablo un poquito de espanol. Muy poquito.

But it helps. Thank goodness for Spanish 4! The thing that always blows me away is paying a thousand pesos for something or other.. seems so wierd to pay such a big number.

Otherwise I really enjoy visiting my inlaws in the Niagara area which we head up to once a year. Upstate NY is so pretty with all the vineyards and I love the convenience of Canada and all that Clifton Hill/Niagara has to offer.

Of course my husband would say HIS favorite spot is Vegas - probably even over WDW You can take a man out of the casino but you cant make him give up his comp card LOL I have fun there but I always wish Im going to WDW while Im packing for it.

Edit to add: I forgot to mention the trip we took to Japan when I was a kid. Unbelievable and by far my favorite vacation ever! I still thank my parents to this day for taking me there and look forward to the time I can return!

I've been a lot of places I enjoy almost as much as a Disney vacation, but Charleston, SC is a destination we return to whenever we can.

Last summer I hooked up my travel trailer (when gas was $2/gal) and went on the road to Minnesota for a 4 day music festival and then to Yellowstone & Grand Teton for 2 weeks. On the way back stopped @ Devil's Tower.
Amazing trip..almost a month on the road..4500+ miles.
Love to do it again but with gas...

I guess the short answer to other than WDW would be the USA. Like a previous poster, in the summer we have hooked up the trailer, picked up a couple of grandkids and traveled around the country. With a Golden Age Passport (for age 62 and older) you can't really afford to stay home. Some of the Forest Service campgrounds have been $3.50 a night.

We have a few places we keep going back to and a few I'd love to get to again. Here's a list:

    Ridgway State Park, Colorado
Organ Pipe Cactus Nat'l Monument, Arizona
Mt. St Helens, Washington (camp at Seaquest State Park)

There are many great camping/vacationing places all over the country but those 3 have stood out.

Still hope to overwinter in Fort Wilderness in my old age.

Best vacation ever, other than WDW, would have to be Egypt. Hope to be able to do it again someday.
