10th Anniversary~where do we go??
Dh and I will be celebrating our 10th anniversary the end of Jan. We'd like to escape our Michigan winter and head somewhere warm, but we will only have 4 nights (childcare for 3 little ones is hard to come by!) We haven't been ANYWHERE alone in many, many years. I know, I'd go to WDW too, but DH can't imagine doing that without the kids. Also, we were just there a few weeks ago.
We can usually get exceptionally inexpensive airfare from DTW to MCO, so we were thinking, what Orlando area resort do you most recommend for this romantic type of getaway. I should mention I am a bonafide hotel snob, and require somewhat luxurious accomodations. We would also like onsite dining options. Any suggestions?
We are thinking of Portofino Bay, Hard Rock,
Ritz Carlton, Grand Cypress, and several others. All comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!!
Jen :)

I would recommend going someplace other than Orlando for a romantic anniversary getaway. For our 15'th anniversary my husband and I went to Captiva Island (near Sanibel Is). We stayed at the South Seas Resort, which was fantastic - many pools, beach on the Gulf of Mexico, several restaurants on-site plus other restaurants very close by, beautiful sunsets on the water. We flew into Ft Myers and rented a car. We stayed 4 nights which was perfect.
This past spring we celebrated our 20'th anniversary by going to Key West. Another wonderful trip. We stayed at a small hotel called Marquesa which was in the Old Town. Once we got there we handed our rental car over to the hotel and didn't see it again until we left. We could walk to everything - restaurants, bars, museums, shopping. The hotel is small and quite beautiful. They do not allow children, which we felt was a plus since we were getting away to spend some time without our 4 children! We also spent 4 nights here, which was just right. Key West involves a lot more traveling than Captiva, but it was wonderful!
I would highly recommend both of these destinations.
Whatever you decide to do enjoy!

Have you thought of a cruise? For our 10th anniversary DH and I did a 3 day Bahamas cruise... soooo very romantic! Though now you have to worry about the whole passport issue...
How about Naples? Or Sanibel? Do a 'google' search of 'romantic places in florida' and see what comes up...

Thanks so much for the great suggestions! We do Key West every year, as we are owners at the Hyatt Sunset Harbor vacation club. We've been to South Seas Plantation on Captiva Island and also enjoyed that. We are giving some thought to a cruise, but I'm not certain we'll be able to swing that.
The reason we thought Orlando is simply we know the area so well from our WDW trips, but have yet to experience Universal at all. We do enjoy the theme park experience, and like the diverse offerings in food/beverage/shows, etc.
Again, thanks so much for the great suggestions!
