I carry a large purse (messenger bag style). It's just right- fit the cameras, tickets, sunglasses.
If it is cold or supposed to rain my husband will also bring a small drawstring backpack for the ponchos and hoodies.

I usually take a small backpack...I carry the camera, wallet, park tickets and baby wipes. I do not have kids, but ice cream in the summer melts very quickly and this saves a trip to the bathroom everytime we get ice cream!
Also, there is enough room that if we buy small stuff I can put that in there also.

We usually take a regular backpack but I may try one of the drawstring ones next trip. As I am the "pack mule mamma" I end up carrying all the stuff. For me, a backpack is easier on the bod than something over one shoulder. I try to keep stuff to a minimum--but with kids (wipes, water, basic first aid, sunblock, snacks). I also use a thin, light "wallet" that goes around your neck that holds tickets, credit cards, IDs. Easier than digging in the bag and I don't lose it.

wow, Thanks for all the great ideas I guess I'll just think about what I really want to bring to the park and pick a bag from there. .

bag choice
I bring a larger sized bag with all the things my 2 year old may need and leave it in the stroller.
I bring a compact purse that fits around like a messenger bag with all my essentials; camera, AP, room key, money, etc. That lightens the load, keeps my valuables with me, and frees my hands to keep up with (or carry) my toddler.
Have a great trip!

I forgot to mention the poncho! Dollar Store works fine--we always have two on the trip in case one bites the dust, or so they can really dry out overnite.

I manage an Eddie Bauer Outlet store, and we just got THE cutest bags in as a special purchase item. It's about the size of a mini-backpack, triangular, and it sort of "fans" or accordions open when you unzip it. The strap starts at the top point of the triangle and then splits halfway down to connect to the other two points - this way it can be worn as a slingpack. Or there is a zipper to seperate the single portion of the strap, and it can be worn as a mini-backpack. With just enough room for the essentials, all I need to do now is decide on a color. Oh the dilemma...
