Who Do You Root For?

Well I have only been active in "The Locker Room" for a few months but I am enjoying the debate and conversation.

One thing I would like to suggest id for all of the regular, and not so regular contributors to this area of the sight to show you loyalties. I am very curious as to who supports who.

So I will start the progress and hopefully all of you whom I have gotten to know through this medium will respond.

Very cool about Braddock. Cinderella Man is one of my all time favorite books, the movie was great too. I watched allot of his old fights online.

I do not put them on a pedestal I just enjoy watching them. I used to collect autographs, and honestly I did tend to put atheletes on a pedestal years ago. After I had been in the hobby for about 4 years I learned better.

Nascar: You can't be serious? It's not a real sport and neither is golf.

Other rooting interest: The Olympics. For the summer Olympics my favorite sport is swimming and for the Winter Olympics my favorite sport is now curling, closely followed by downhill skiing.

Favorite Athlete: I'm going to expand this and give one of my favorite figures in sports, which would include announcers. I'd have to say Jim McKay. The Olympics just aren't the same without him. RIP Jim McKay.

I do not think collecting autographs is such a bad thing, especially if you go and meet that person in person. The last autographs I went to colect was from WWII veterans at an airshow near reading, pa. Some people I look up to, especially when you hear about some of their exploits.

Favorite Athletes: I don't really have any favorites. Growing up it was Dr. J, but after all that stuff came out about him in his divorce and he was less than a good husband and father, it tainted my love for athletes. Then a friend of mine went to work for the Red Sox after college as a TV producer and traveled with the team. I learned from him that 95% of the athletes he came in contact with in his job (and not just Red Sox players, either) were self-centered egotistical jerks to most people. So, I root for teams, not players.

Love Football. Don't care for most other sports but my oldest son went through a Nascar phase and now I'm familiar with many drivers. His favorite was Jeff Gordon.

And I liked the Bills of the '90's in spite of their Super Bowl losses.

Interesting. I lived with a Suns fan from Phoenix for a year and he always claimed San Antonio was Public Enemy #1 for Sun fans, not the Lakers.

I think everyone that doesn't like LA hates them. Just look at the dislikes in this thread and I think everyone has them :funny:

I think San Antonio is more recent. Suns/Lakers rivalry was going on in the 80s when Magic was still playing.

There are no clear cut favs - there are teams from all over the conferences that we like to watch.

Very cool about Kramer. I was a huge fan of the Pack and even own stock. However when the Titans came to town my loyalty sided with my home town team. I still like the Pack, and have read Starr's autobiography. I think the two franchises are similar (not in tradition) but in the community feeling each team produces. I run into Titans players at the Mall and around town all the time. Ususally they are very freindly, with a couple of exceptions.

Only because my soccer team are called the Spurs I decided to follow this team.

NHL - New Jersey Devils - Don't really follow Hockey but used this team when playing NHL 93 on my Mega Drive.

MLB - Houston Astros. I married a Houstonian and since I had no allegence to any team and that I've visited Minute Maid Park for a few games I have been following them.

As I've also been to see the Texans & Rockets on a few occasions I have to say that I do now follow these teams though I will always be a Raider.

I am sure all of you guys have rooted for the Saints since the 70's ;), but where did you all come from?

Heck I can't even begrudge you guys the chance to be proud. . Seriously, good luck I hope you do win it all if my team does not.
