The trip that almost wasn't Day 1
The bad news came on Thursday the 8th that EVERY road out of WA state was closed due to flooding. I spent all day trying to figure out a way out but there really wasn't one.
I got up at 4am Friday to watch the news. One route was now open but it would add at least 5 hrs to the drive and was over a dangerous mountain pass so we didn't want to do that. Then as the sun rose news came that all of a sudden the water over the I 5 was gone! That was nothing short of a miracle, they didn't expect it to re-open for a few days. They were waiting for the DOT to assess the road before they would open it but we decided to make a run for it and left the house at 10am. See what we left behind...

After a quick stop at my favorite coffee place we were on the way to the border.

We did see some flooding on the way but not nearly as bad as we saw on the news the day before. I don't know where the water went so fast.

A few hours later we hit Oregon.

Since we left about 4 hrs later that planned we got as far as Redding. We stayed at the Hampton Inn which was quite nice! Up next day 2!!
