No link posting since that's a rumor popping up on various fan sites but it has not been confirmed by WDW yet. That said, a couple of CM friends have said the same. The ban will supposedly go into effect within the next week. Security bag checks will be looking for selfie sticks. If a guest tries to bring one in they can either leave with it and take it back to their resort or they can check it with guest relations and pick it up when they leave the park. I realize some folks like these but some are being so obnoxious with these things this makes me happy. It's actually a safety issue. Disney tried to only ban them on attractions but guests have been sneaking them onto attractions and causing safety issues in other places so the decision was (again, only rumor right now) made to ban them completely.
Yay.. So glad they are banning them.. Now if they would just get serious about people using flash on dark rides..
The lady I Know said their managers told them June 30th.
I'm so happy as well. I've seen people hit, nearly hit, and I've nearly been smacked in the face [and got the dirty look for it. Can't figure that one out! LOL]
Amen to having the "selfie-stick" ban!!!!!!
They should be called the "it's all about me-me-me stick".
best,

Yipee!!!!
Apparently this is no longer just hearsay. Its all over the news this morning. Good riddance.
Well, a few apples ruin it for the whole bunch. The majority of users are probably very respectful and follow the rules set in place. I hate we won't be able to bring ours in the park with us on our next trip, but I will be respectful and follow Disney's rules.
This is what was posted by our local news media....

Selfie sticks officially banned at Walt Disney World and Disneyland
POSTED 10:30 AM, JUNE 26, 2015, BY TRIBUNE MEDIA WIRE
ORLANDO, Fla. — Disney has officially added the selfie stick to the list of items not permitted inside its U.S. theme parks, the company confirmed on Friday.
Earlier this year, Disney announced selfie sticks were not allowed on rides. The new policy extends the ban to the front gate, where guests will be stopped at security if they attempt to bring a selfie stick into the park.
The new policy goes into effect on June 30 at both Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland Resort in California, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
The California Screamin’ roller coaster at Disney California Adventure Park was temporarily halted on Wednesday after a passenger pulled out a selfie stick mid-ride
“We strive to provide the great experience for the entire family and unfortunately selfie sticks have become a growing selfie concern for both our guests and our cast,” Disney World spokeswoman Kim Prunty said in a statement.
Theme park guest relations will tag any selfie sticks at the front gate for storage during the day, and guests will be given a claim ticket to pickup their item when leaving the park.
Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland will join the policy starting July 1.
Some of the other items banned inside Disney theme parks include wagons, folding chairs, glass containers, inline skates, skateboards, shoes with build-in wheels, suitcases and other items.
One thing about sticks, they break easily over ones knee.....just sayin. ;)
Now how will I take a picture of myself crying when I pay 20 dollars for a Turkey Leg lol
I find them annoying like most but just because I don't like seeing a bunch of cameras/phone rise up into the air during a parade or fireworks blocking my view. So I'm glad they are banned.
However, what I do t understand is the hate for them because they are the "all about me" sticks. How is taking your picture with a selfie stick any different than having your family meme bet take your picture, or asking a stranger to take your picture. Isn't that still "all about you"?
YYou are exactly right!
AND furthermore, what is the difference??? NO matter IF you have a $1500 camera w/$1600 lens; iPad camera; gopro or phone on a stick?!?!?! If you are obnoxious and take your ol'sweet time and hold up a line or walkway YOU are invading my time and space. And if are stupid enough to take any of these on an attraction or rollercoaster you should be escorted out of the park period. Makes no difference when safety is a concern.
For what is allowed - please remember to get your shot or video and get out of the way for the next guest who wants to capture their memory.
Final Point - YES a few did ruin it. And I have no issues saying that from what I see it's been a lot of how should I say it..."non-Americans" who blew it. There I said it. I was just in Alaska and saw selfie-sticks. In fact I took mine, first time used. Prolly used it maybe 10 times total. I can actually take better selfie's by arm/hand - not that I take 100's of them but point made. BUT guess what...? It wasn't Americans who had issues being polite in general and taking turns with expensive cameras; phones on sticks; and even shopping in the souvenir shop as well in general.
So consider me guilty of calling a spade a spade etc. Thanks for ruining all the fun and having by having the sticks banned... YOU know who you are. <snip>
I've seem them referred to as "selfish-sticks"! Very appropriate. I'm glad I won't have to put up with them anymore.
I do think the sticks take things to the next level in terms of doing whatever it takes to get that perfect photo/video etc. The only real benefit of it is the ability to get a group shot without having to ask a stranger or have a member of your party not be present in the photo. But most of the time, I see people using them to video on rides, video over fences that you're not supposed to see over, holding them up during fireworks and shows obstructing your view. We are seeing more and more at our local zoo. People try to dangle them over the enclosures. I like taking pictures, but I don't fancy myself a wildlife photographer. Do you really need to get in front of everybody to get your camera high enough over so your shot is not obstructed by glass? (This happened at the Polar Bear exhibit. Gotta admit, I kinda wished the device would fall). :thedolls:
About time...this is good news.
I agree, it is about time. It was just a matter of time before I snapped and broke someone's over my knee or grabbed it and beat the phone on the ground until it was nothing but bits. All it would have taken is getting whacked in the head one more time.....
Now if they would just enforce the rule of no flash or lighting in the rides and attractions. I wish they would put out a notice that effective some date, they will be enforcing no flash and escorting violators to the exit. It really ticks me off to be on say POC and someone start taking video with the light on.
