I've been to Disney a bunch of times, but I've never been to one of the water parks. Actually, I've never been to a water park EVER! :secret: I can imagine the ground gets really hot... what do you suggest for shoes?
We always wear water shoes, they are great
We didnt need any at Typhoon Lagoon, but I would have loved some water shoes at Blizzard Beach. There was very little shade and the walkways were very hot. Plus we all thought the pools and walkways were a little rough and kind of hurt our feet there. I wore flip flops to Typhoon Lagoon and those were fine.
Blizzard Beach also has a LOT of steps to climb, and they are rough, so shoes are necessary.
We always use water shoes. Flip flops would be okay, provided they don't get all slippery when wet.
We've worn both. I prefer flip flops. I guess it depends on whether you want to wear them constantly or take them off in the water. Flip flops are much easier to kick on and off than water shoes.
I prefer flip flops. We visited Typhoon Lagoon last, and didn't need to wear any shoes.
It is water shoes for us!!!!!! We go in August and the ground and steps are HOT!!!!!!! Most of the time you are soaked throughout the day sooo having flip flops on you risk your feet slipping in and out. Also witht the wave pool you need that tight fit because you will loose your flip flops!!!!
Water shoes for sure.
The bottoms of the pools are rough cement and flip flops would fall off your feet underwater.
Plus the walkways will burn your feet unless you have something on, so as goofy as they sometimes look, it's water shoes for my family!
Are you able to wear your water shoes on the water slides and rides?
Yes, except for the speed slides. You have to take them off and hold them across your chest on those.
Typhoon Lagoon is our favorite and we've always gone barefoot. There is enough shade that we didn't feel like we were running from one cool spot to another.
My wife and daughter wear flip flops everywhere, so they prefer them at water parks. I prefer water shoes myself.
I'd still rather go barefoot. How often can you anymore?
I'm pretty sure I've always gone barefoot too!! I always had the idea that shoes wouldn't be allowed on the slides, so I just didn't bother wearing them! I've never had a problem going barefoot!:goof:
We tried barefoot at Blizzard Beach - between the HOT pavement and the rough surface, we decided never again barefoot. Next we tried the el cheapo water shoes which were better at protecting from the heat and the roughness. But then feet hurt from not enough support.
Now most of us wear better water shoes with plenty of cushioning and support. We have also worn the Teva style of sandals and Crocs as well. Crocs don't stay on in the water as well as the sandals or the better water shoes.
And on the major slides you will be requested to remove your footwear. But not on most slides.
Also, after Blizzard Beach, which is quite sunny, I wear a long sleeved shirt out of that quick dry material with the sun screen built in. I have been noticing quite a few people covering up from the sun.
Some of our family members wear their sunglasses almost continuously, except of course on the big slides.
It's amazing what you can see at a water park.
Enjoy!

I'm skeeved out by going barefoot anywhere that a lot of other people are ALSO going barefoot. Warts, anyone? Or, worse...a tiny cut on your foot can turn really nasty if the wrong kind of bacteria gets in there. No thanks!
Disney will let you wear WATER SHOES on all the slides (except the speed slides), but other types of shoes that can come off easily (flip flops and crocs, for example) will usually have to come off and you'd need to hold them. This was what we experienced/witnessed at Blizzard Beach last year. We had on water shoes, but many people around us were asked to take off flip flops and crocs.
I wear flops, but water shoes are probably better and safer.
Flip flops can come off even at the end of the slower slides if you hit the pool at the bottom wrong - (trust me on this)
I like to go barefoot don't like the feeling of shoes in the water. My husband wears water shoes.
Water shoes for me ...can't do flip flops. That piece sticking between my toes don't work.
The water parks are awesome!! Either footware you choose you'll have to take them off when going down most of the water slides.
If a cm doesn't tell you to take them off,you should.I twisted my knee at TL due to the bottom of the water shoe has traction and it caught on the wall of a slide.Ouch!!
Miss tilly and TL is our favorite of the 2 water parks.Have fun!!
